Pests are well loved; they give company and affection to their owners. According to the survey by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) in 2006, 63% of U.S. household own pets – that is more than 69 million households in the U.S. The high number of household owning pets in return gave way to an increased number of flea problems among pets, making it a major option for pet owners to resort to flea extermination.

Fleas can present danger to the health of the pets, and even to that of the owner. Flea bites cause skin irritation that is why it is best to look for flea extermination methods in order to get rid of them. And one of the common ways to get rid of fleas is by drowning. Giving you your pet a regular bath is drowning the fleas that are on its body. Water can drown fleas, it limits their ability to breathe, and may cause them to die. Bathing using a flea shampoo is even more effective because there are those specifically designed to kill fleas on pets. Others say that it is also good to use baby shampoo to bathe your pet due to the chemical contents baby shampoos have. When you start bathing your pet, for sure the fleas will run towards other areas of the body, often they would run to the head and would survive that way. But a good chunk on adult fleas can already do the job of getting rid of them.

The best way to bathe a pet is apply shampoo first around the neck area. Since fleas would tend to run towards the head for survival, this technique will cut off their escape routes. Keep a lathered portion of shampoo on the neck to block their way, and then you can go about the other parts of your pet’s body. It is also advisable to use warm or cool water. Shampoo the rest of the body and leave the shampoo un-rinsed for a few minutes. Then, rinse your pet and make sure to get all shampoo off your pet.

Regular bathing will help solve your flea problem. You can bathe your pet twice a day. Flea extermination shouldn’t be a difficult job to do. Your patience in taking good care of your pet is much necessary to keep them flea-free. Pets want to be loved as well, and you would want to give them the hug and cuddle they need as often as possible without any worries of a flea bite.
